Getting to Geraldine

THE PERFECT PLACE TO STAY OR STOP

Nestled in the foothills of the Southern Alps, on the confluence of the Inland Scenic Route (72) and State Highway 79, Geraldine is the perfect self-drive stopover on the way to Takapō/Tekapo, Aoraki/Mt Cook, the Southern Lakes, Wanaka, and Queenstown.

Taking Route 72 northwards is a wonderful way to explore rural Waitaha/Canterbury with Peel Forest, Mt Somers, the Ashburton lakes, Rakaia Gorge and more, all within easy reach of the drive route.

Just a 1.5-hour drive from Ōtautahi/Christchurch airport, our picturesque town is handily located a few minutes off State Highway 1, midway between the bustling towns of Ashburton and Timaru.

With Timaru Airport only a 20-minute drive from Geraldine, and rental vehicles available on arrival, a fly-drive holiday is extremely easy.

The intercity bus network has daily stopovers in both Geraldine, and nearby Orari, for passengers travelling both north and south.  The Geraldine Community Vehicle Trust can be booked for transfers to and from bus stops, around town and further afield.
